MDOT says we’re at 50%, and other updates!

A few updates from last week:

  • We’re at about 1,000 signatures! That’s huge, but less than 1% of Ann Arbor. We need many more to show our strength! Sign our petition, and post it to your neighborhood and friend groups and keep spreading the word.

  • At a public meeting of the WATS Policy Committee last Wednesday, we heard a representative from MDOT say that the public comments they've received on the US-23 study so far are running about 50-50 over whether the freeway should be expanded. This means our campaign is working, but we need to keep it up. If you haven't already, fill out the official comment form and add pins on the mapping tool telling MDOT not to expand the freeway, and to consider a transit alternative instead - we have some sample language you can use. Then, tell all your friends to do the same! (Also, if you're wondering what a transit alternative could actually look like, we have some thoughts.)

  • Follow us on social media! We have accounts on X (née Twitter), Facebook, Bluesky, and Mastodon.

  • Wasteful and destructive freeway expansions aren't just a local problem, but a national one. Check out the Communities over Highways campaign from America Walks, and use their form letter tool to contact your elected state and federal reps! (We'd recommend customizing the message to specifically mention US-23, of course.)

Thanks for your support and we’ll be in touch soon with further advocacy plans!
