MDOT drops all 3 expansion alternatives!
We’re writing to share the exciting news that yesterday MDOT announced they were dropping the three expansion alternatives from the US-23 Improvement Study – we won!
MDOT also announced changes to create additional accommodations for pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure on several of the bridges which will be replaced, and that they will formally study how a reconstructed US-23 could support bus operations on shoulders. Although we’re still analyzing the details, these changes help us move towards a more sustainable future!
We extend our most sincere thanks to all of our supporters, which included the City of Ann Arbor, The Ride, elected officials, members of commissions and organizations, and all of YOU for your advocacy and support. Most of all, we'd like to thank the MDOT University Region staff and project team for taking this feedback to heart and refocusing the US-23 study in a direction that will be more sustainable, accessible, and equitable for future generations of Michiganders. We will be encouraging folks to submit public comments in enthusiastic support of the updated project!
We still believe the Ann Arbor region needs more robust regional transit options, to accommodate current and future travel needs in a more sustainable way. In the coming weeks we’ll be exploring with MDOT, The Ride, and the Regional Transportation Authority how we can advocate to study, design, and implement these improvements - stay tuned.
In the short term we’ll be celebrating our success and will soon share details about an upcoming event!
